The Art Lab, Episode 25: Art Inspiration

Heh heh, so some of you are probably like, “What?! She just published this post!” Well yeah, I did… but I didn’t mean to. XD I accidentally hit the publish button before I finished. Oops. πŸ˜›Β Now that I haveΒ explained all that, let’s get on with the real stuff. πŸ™‚

Guys, guys, guys, look! It’s the 25th Art Lab post! WOOP WOOP! And today I’m doing something a little different, to celebrate. Okay,Β not really to celebrate – it’s mostly because I wanted to, but we can say it’s toΒ celebrate, right? πŸ˜› Ahem. As I was saying before I so rudely interrupted myself, today I’m just going to post some pictures of some of my recent art rather than using someone else’s art as inspiration. I’m always inspired when I look through bloggers’ art posts, so I hope this post inspires you to sit down and start drawing! πŸ˜€

First up I have a few ATCs. (If you don’t know what Arist Trading Cards are, I highly recommend you click here to find out!Β They’re so much fun!)Β Some of these are recent and some are not so recent.

YAY doughnuts! Yummy. I really like this one. πŸ™‚

art (21) (1280x853)

I did these watercolor cherries from a tutorial on Pinterest (which you can see here).Β They turned out great – if you don’t look at theΒ cherries on the tutorial, that is. XD

art (22) (1280x853)

I love this quote/verse thingy, and have a canvas with these words on my bed.

art (23) (1280x853)

We learned about geraniums in Nature Study, so I decided to draw one on an ATC.

art (24) (1280x853)

I made this ATC ages ago, but I still love it. πŸ™‚

art (25) (1280x853)

This is the first page (besides the title page) in my new sketchbook. Eh, could be better, but it least it’s welcoming. XD

art (15) (1280x853)

It’s a rainbow lion! It didn’t turn out quite like I had hoped, but I still like it.

art (11) (1280x853)

I liked drawing the lion’s eyes so much that I did another one on a separate page.

art (12) (1280x853)

Ahhhh, I love this one! I wish our roosters looked this pretty. πŸ˜› I actually just finished this today with my new Prismacolor colored pencil set. It took me several days to draw this, but I’m very pleased with how it turned out! (And in case you’re wondering, I did look off of a photo.)

art (16) (1280x853)

This is another of my absolute favorites! On my birthday I decided I wanted to draw a fox. I had a picture in my mind, and what do you know – I got it down on paper and it actually looked good! XD I didn’t copy anything but I did look off of some photos and drawings for reference. She’s such a cute wittle thing, don’t you agree?

art (17) (1280x853)

I drew this for my horse-loving friends, and for those of you who requested a horse drawing. Here you go, girls!

art (18) (1280x853)

Here’s another ATC which I drew a long time ago. I think it’s so funny but neat. XD

art (19) (1280x853)

Another mandala ATC…

art (20) (1280x853)

I drew this for art class because my art teacher wanted me to experiment with an art medium I’d never used before. I was like, “Um… I can’t really think of any art supplies that I have at home but have never used.” XD Finally we came up with artist’s pastels! It was fun to experiment, but I don’t especially like how easily they smudge.

art (5) (1280x853)
My little sister thinks this picture is so weird. XD

art (4) (1280x853)
And this one too. πŸ˜› Well they’re kind of SUPPOSED to be weird, so…

art (6) (1280x853)

I haven’t finished this one yet and probably won’t for a long time, but I wanted to show you guys how it looks so far. I had the idea to make a collage of barcodes, and I think it’s looking really neat! I’m only using the ones off of receipts, so it’s going toΒ take a while to collect enough to cover the whole page. Heh heh.

art (7) (1280x853)

A random Sharpie doodle…

art (8) (1280x853)

I love how this one turned out. I’m kind of proud that I could get theΒ highlights to look fairly realistic because IΒ usually have trouble with them. πŸ˜›

art (10) (1280x853)
Just in case you were wondering, my little sister LOVES this one. XD

We were playing around with charcoal in Art Class, and this is what my practice page turned out like:

art (2) (1280x853)

Here’s my actual drawing made with charcoal:

art (3) (1280x853)

And last but not least, one of my very favorite favorites, a picture I drew of Bethany from a photo Loren’s gorgeous post. I just LOVE how it turned out! The background was inspired by a super good teenage artist named Sydney Nielsen that I follow on Instagram. She also has a YouTube channel here. You should check it out –Β she’s really amazing!

art (13) (1280x853)

Are you inspired yet? XD I hope so! Which was your favorite piece of art from this post?

Also, I wondered if you have any drawing requests for me! I’m not guaranteeing I’ll draw whatever you ask, but I’d sure love to hear your suggestions and I’ll definitely try some of them!

Thanks for reading, dears, and have a lovely day (or night). β™₯

        1. Okay, so I asked Hayley and she said she’s hoping to do one in a couple of weeks! When she does, I’ll try to link to it in one of my posts. πŸ™‚

  1. Well, that makes more sense! I LOVE THEM SO MUCH! I really can’t decide…but as I’m a horse lover too, maybe the horse, but argh! You’re such a wonderful artist!

    1. HA HA yeah, I hate it when I accidentally publish it before I’m ready. 😑 XD Anyway, THANK YOU SO MUCH! I’m so glad you like them! Ha ha, thank you again, Enni. πŸ™‚

  2. Oh my goodness, you are such an AMAZING artist! I have been getting into cartooning lately and hope to post sooner or later, so it’s natural that I think the green-eyed fox was awesome and I’m definitely going to be trying it out, but I hope you don’t expect me to choose a favourite! How is it that all your animal drawings turn out so well? XD

    1. Aww THANK YOUUUU! Hee hee thanks! I love the fox too. XD Well for animals it really helps to look off of a photo, and I just kind of keep playing around until I like how it looks. πŸ˜‰

  3. Pure beauty!!! You are a magnificent artist! My favorite was all of your drawings combined into one! πŸ˜‰ I especially loved the Mandalas though, the one I made was inspired from the post you did on yours. πŸ˜‰ I love your art! Ooh, art request, more mandalas!! Hehe! πŸ˜€

    1. Aww thank you, Livy! Ha ha! XD I’m glad you liked the mandalas, because I really like drawing them! πŸ˜€ Ooh, did I see your mandala? I don’t think I have… I’d love to see it!

  4. Wow, Allison, all of these are so good!! You are so good at shading and highlights-that’s what I always struggle with. The cherry ATC looks really good-it doesn’t really matter if it doesn’t look like the tutorial. πŸ˜‰
Why are you only using barcodes from receipts? I was going to say that you could cut them off of coupons you don’t want, but maybe you don’t want to do that.
This post did kind of make me want to draw or color, but I really should be doing school work. πŸ˜›

    1. Thank you so much! Yeah, I think I’ve actually gotten a lot better at that lately, because I have trouble with those too. Aww thanks! Heh heh, I suppose so. πŸ˜‰
Well because I started out with only receipts, so if I used them from, like, cereal boxes, the material would be different and I didn’t think it would look very good. πŸ˜› But oh yeah! That’s a great idea to use them off of coupons! Thanks! πŸ˜€
Ha ha! Well I guess school work IS probably more important. πŸ˜›

  5. Wow, those are amazing! I’ve gotten kind of addicted to zen tangles, so….. yeah. 😊 It’s tons of fun.
What does ACT stand for? I keep trying to figure it out. . .
That barcode idea is really cool!! Wow, I never would have thought of that.

  6. These are amazing! Now I have to get back to my drawing…I’ve been neglecting it lately, but I just finished an amazing(in my eyes) abstract painting of two Mexican dancers…..I’ll have to post it soon. I would love for your input!
And what brand of charcoal do you use? I’ve been trying to find a nice brand, but haven’t had much luck…

    1. Thanks so much! Ooh, that does sound neat! Sure, I’d be glad to see it!
I actually don’t know what the brand is – I only used it once at my art class, so I’m afraid I don’t know. :/ Sorry about that!

    1. Aww thank you so much! Well let me tell you, the way to get better is just to keep on drawing! πŸ˜€ I’ve been drawing for my whole life, and all that practice REALLY helps you get good. πŸ™‚

  7. I don’t like WordPress’s new setup that much because the “Publish” button is just too easy to click by accident! πŸ˜›
My favorite drawing is either the fox, the flower crown, the tomato, or the horse. I’m very indecisive because THEY’RE ALL SO AMAZING!
    Ooh, drawing requests! Here goes:

    Maggie
Raindrops falling into a puddle (It’s raining right now!)
    A hedgehog
    A crowd of people
A wild turkey (They’re so much prettier than people think!)
    Your camera

Those were really random. Oh well! XD

    1. Ha ha, yeah. I mostly wish WordPress would just stick to ONE SETUP and keep it for a while instead of constantly changing it. XD
Hee hee, thanks, Clara! That’s pretty much how I sounded trying to figure out which picture to use for the featured image: “ARGH I CAN’T DECIDE!” XD XD XD
Wow, thanks so much for those great drawing requests, Clara! I’ll definitely try some of those. πŸ™‚

Ooh! I have a drawing request can you please draw some fairies?!?!?!

    1. Aww thank youuuuu! HA HA you’re so funny. XD If you keep on drawing and drawing and drawing some more, you’re bound to get better, and since I’ve drawn my whole life, I can say that practice really does help! πŸ˜€

  9. Wow, you are VERY talented! I am seriously horrible at drawing. πŸ˜‚ My sister showed one of our friends a picture I tried to do once and we seriously laughed over it for 5 minutes.

    1. Aww thank you SOOOO much! Well I can tell you you’ll only get better if you keep practicing! I think that everyone can make beautiful art if they practice enough. πŸ™‚ Ha ha, well at least your art served an excellent purpose in entertaining you and your friend. XD XD XD

  10. Oh, these are so beautiful! God has definitely given you a gift in art! Aren’t Prismacolors SO nice?? I have a really nice set of 150–so thankful for them, too. They’ve been really useful. That is a great barcode idea! Are you hand drawing each of them or just cutting and pasting them from the receipts?
The flowers on the last picture almost look like they are coming out of the page! πŸ˜€ And I LovE the rooster. I think that might be my favorite.
    Thanks for sharing these!

  11. Amazing job! These are really neat! Your cherries look great; I know what you mean about looking at the prompt picture, though XD . I think that happened with a picture I drew of a walnut from a drawing book. I’d love to see the finished bar-code collage someday, if you decide to post it! πŸ™‚ I like how some of your pictures are kind of abstract/fun/interesting, like the moose and the hand (which, by the way, is an amazing hand! πŸ˜€ )

Yeah… I’ll do that. Thanks, Allison! I saw your post on how to draw eyes and it was really good! Do you think you could do a post of ‘how to draw mouths’ or faces in general?

        Like

              1. Oh that’s alright if you don’t want to/can’t do it, but I’d love it if you could. πŸ™‚ Or you could even just do mouths or a part of the face or something.

  13. Omggg you’re so talented Allison!!!! Everything is so realistic (except the ones that aren’t supposed to be) and I especially love the one with all the barcodes! So cool!
Also, I am absolutely trilled to have discovered your blog – it’s always nice to find another teenager blogging. I’m definitely not a farm girl, but nor am I a city girl so I guess I’m a small town girl (??) and I’m absolutely stunned by the number of eggs you collect. 24K woah.

    1. Aww thank youuuu!
Hee hee, well actually we don’t collect 24,000 eggs each day (although we get many more than that over the whole year), but we do have 24,000 chickens. πŸ™‚
I’m so glad you commented, Anne! It’s nice to meet you. πŸ˜€
